About

This site is dedicated to discussion on all things Martial Arts, in order to develop a knowledge base for all developing martial artists…

…and lets face it we are all still developing no matter what stage we are at as we strive to reach as close to perfection as possible.

I hope to be able to share my experience with you all and I hope you too shall contribute to this blog in order to help me and others progress.

To give you some background about myself, my first introduction to the world of Martial Arts was through kung fu movies and my first hero…Bruce Lee.

Looking back now it’s strange that Bruce Lee was my inspiration to get involved in Martial Arts as he truly was the epitome of the Total Martial Artist, and his influence is likely to be apparent in this blog.

I began actually training in Judo at the age of around 5. I remember that I want to start with Karate, which was offered by the same club, but I was told I was too young and in actual fact I think the instructors were right as Judo certainly is a good Martial Art to start with at a young age.

My training at this age wasn’t particularly intense and I trained mostly for fun.

I then moved from Judo to Karate for a short while, but found it wasn’t the art I was looking for and I actually stopped training for a short while.

At the age of 12 I discovered I remember I saw Jean Claude Van Damme and realised I really wanted to be able to perform the flashy kicks like him and so I started training in ITF Tae Kwon Do.

I trained regularly and found I really enjoyed training in Tae Kwon Do due to its sporting sparring element.

I achieved my 1st Dan, before moving on to training in Arnis/Escrima as I was now getting more interested in real world application and I found this to be a great Martial Art.

Around this time the UFC was emerging and I saw Royce Gracie annihilate much larger opponents in No-Holds Barred fights. Remember this was at the start of the UFC when there were no rounds and little rules. This sparked my interest in the Gracie family and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but at that time there was little opportunity to train in BJJ other than seminars, which I did.

Unfortunately, although my interest never faded, I got distracted from training due to other commitments in my life.

However, I now find myself looking to recommence my Martial Arts journey and to delve further and immerse myself in the Martial Arts world I have started this blog and will soon be launching www.TotalMartialArtsSupplies.com, which I hope you will support and provide feedback on how to improve.

I look forward to talking Martial Arts with you.
