How to keep Martial Arts Sparring Gear Clean! Pt 2
Ok well if you haven’t already seen the full article at Total Martial Arts Supplies then here’s the second part:
Now moving onto actual cleaning methods here are some examples for common pieces of equipment:
1)For mouth guards you can just wash with soap and water and let them dry. You can also consider using some mouthwash on them, either rinsing with it or dabbing it on with a clean cloth. This will help keep them bacteria free and smelling fresh. There are also some antibacterial sprays you can get to accomplish the same thing.
2)Dipped foam protective equipment should be wiped down after each session with a damp cloth. You can also use baby wipes or some other form of sanitizing spray on a piece of cloth to help keep them clean.
3)Cloth based protective equipment, including handwraps, can simply be hand washed or machine washed on a gentle cycle and then aired out to dry.
4)Gear bags will usually have a label with cleaning recommendations, but you can also leave some sort of air freshener inside them (the hanging type of car air fresheners work well)
5)Cups can can be cleaned in a simialr manner to dipped foam protective equipment.
Even with the above methods your sparring equipment may still develop a bit of a smell over time. So you can try the following to methods to absorb sweat and clean your sparring gear:
1) Fill a pair of cotton socks with baby powder and tie off the ends. After airing out your sparring gear, stuff a sock into each piece of equipment.
2) Fill a pair of cotton socks with cedar chips and tie off the ends. After airing out your gloves, stuff a sock into each glove.
